You can’t win them all, all the time.
International Boxing Federation Flyweight Champion Vic Darchinyan put a definitive blow on the quest of other Filipino boxers to greatness when he floored Filipino Diosdado Gabi in the 8th round of their title showdown, Saturday, March 4, 2006 (Philippine time) at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California. Darchinyan, unbeaten in his 25 previous bouts dropped Gabi with a crushing left hand which knocked Gabi out of his senses and referee David Mendoza had to stop the fight to save the Filipino from further punishment. Earlier, Gabi was poised to actually join Manny Pacquiao and Brian Viloria in the fold of boxing greatness, but things did not go his way.
There is now some sort of concern over the upcoming showdown between Filipino and Mexican boxers which is scheduled on July 2, 2006 at the Araneta Coliseum. Diosdado Gabi’s loss could be a bad omen for the Filipino punchers.
