“Golden Boy” Looks for Pinoy Golden Boys

Boxing’s Golden Boy Oscar dela Hoya has tapped Pinoy punchers Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Z “The Dream” Gorres to be his next promising pool of world crown contenders.

Dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions sets to bring the two Filipino boxers to the United States to have their own chances at boxing glory before spring season comes to the boxing capital of the world.

“The hottest talent pool in world boxing right now is in the Philippines,” dela Hoya said in the Golden Boy website. The Ala Boxing Management, handler of unbeaten and top world ranked bantamweight Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista (19-0, 14 KOs) and super bantamweight Z “The Dream” Gorres (22-1-1, 12 KOs), has signed an alliance with the Golden Boy Promotions. “To bring exciting young fighters like Bautista and Gorres to the States to train and fight is an important step in the development of our company because we want to continue to bring the best fighters in the world to fight fans, and this is just another avenue of doing so, ” dela Hoya added.

This is a welcome development for Filipino boxers and sure enough, Rey Bautista and Z Gorres might just be the next Manny Pacquiao who is the hands down “golden boy” of Filipino boxing right now.

I wonder if Golden Boy’s Marco Antonio Barrera is considered the golden boy of the superfeatherweight level in world boxing.

I welcome your comments.
