I just can’t help myself writing about this Russian tennis sensation, Maria Sharapova.  The first thing I heard about her is that she’s got the looks.  Now, she’s got both looks and stocks.

The game of tennis is not as power-packed and action-packed like boxing or any other contact sport but it has its unique level of power and action.  Power serves, power smashes, power shots both forehand and back hand, power moves such as lounges, stretches, strides and twists, power screams, swaggers, clinches and even “power” words that sometimes come out of adrenaline-pumped-up players — these are the power-packed characteristics of tennis.  Here are the action-packed scenes:  an ace, a service winner, a serve-and-volley point, a long rally won, dropshots and longshots, a returned power serve, a returned smash, ad infinitum.  Name them all and Masha (Maria’s popular nickname) has them all.

At age 15, she was already ranked in the Women’s Tennis Association at #186.  At the sweet age of 16, she made a historic jump to #32 becoming one of the youngest players to join Grand Slam events of tennis.  From #32, she leaped to the top 5 of the WTA rankings at #4 after winning one of the most pretigious if not the most prestigious of all Grand Slam events of World Tennis — The Wimbledon Open — and the Year End Championship.  She has been in the top 5 ever since and on one occasion she got to the top spot #1 (August 22, 2005), becoming the fifth youngest ever to be number 1 and also the first Russian to be ranked 1.

On and off the court, Maria Sharapova is a picture of beauty.  Perhaps, this beauty is the single defining factor for her popularity.  But frankly, her beautiful game accentuates her physical attractiveness the more and right now, she’s the most popular tennis player on the surface of the earth.

In terms of earnings, she has accumulated more than $5 million.  Add to this the money she makes out of indorsements and guestings and she will easily make the list of the wealthiest youngsters in the world.
